Identity-based security and secure payment technology provider Entrust Datacard has signed a new five-year strategic partner agreement with international policing organization Interpol.
The Entrust Datacard brand debuted last week as a result of Datacard Group’s acquisition of Entrust less than a year ago.
In its pursuit of malicious actors and international criminal organizations, Interpol is prioritizing the development of new and efficient international police cooperation tools such as the Interpol Travel Document, which has helped worldwide police agencies securely communicate, collaborate and share data.
Entrust had continuously provided Interpol credentialing and identification technology for Interpol officers starting in June 2009. The original agreement provided global identification credentials for Interpol officers that facilitated uninterrupted travel across borders to more than 95 member countries on missions in the pursuit of transnational criminals.
Reflecting its confidence in Entrust, Interpol has renewed this contract with the new Entrust Datacard entity, and expanded the agreement to include a variety of advanced security technologies and initiatives, including the Entrust Datacard PKI and advanced EAC-enabled document validation, to underpin the Interpol Travel Document initiative.
Entrust Datacard will provide the PKI capabilities, trust infrastructure and authentication solutions to underpin the Interpol Travel Document initiative.
In its continual efforts to fight modern crime across borders, Interpol is currently working with biometrics firm Safran Morpho to develop a facial image database, which will improve Interpol’s forensic capabilities when it becomes operational in early 2015. In October, Interpol’s Facial Expert Working Group convened to begin development on international facial recognition standards around quality, format and distribution of images to be used in facial recognition.
