BPD: Four arrested, 18 cited at DUI checkpoint in east Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Four people were arrested and 18 drivers were cited following a DUI checkpoint in east Bakersfield Friday night.

The Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a DUI checkpoint on Friday, July 26, 2024, in the 700 block of Monterey Street between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Bakersfield police said during the checkpoint, 367 vehicles were screened by officers.

According to police, three drivers were detained for evaluation to determine their sobriety influence level.

In total, The Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Unit arrested three drivers for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, and one driver for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs.

15 vehicles were impounded at the checkpoint. Four vehicles were temporarily held due to Driver License violations and were released to the registered owner at the scene, according to police. 18 drivers were cited for Driver License violations.

The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
